Kitchener's Carvery Bar

We could go on in that Joburg high speak about Kitchener’s great décor and royal-like service. We could even touch on the great air-conditioning and state of the art ablution facilities. Even better, why not mention the wide variety of cocktails and drinks of choice at the bar, and to add to that, a cigarette machine furnished with the brand of your choice. We can’t because Kitchener’s has none of these.

With the cover charge never more than 30 bucks and the drinks more reasonably priced than any fancy shmancy Joburg joint, we are in love. Wait, it’s more than just a haven for cheapskates. On any Friday night, you are guaranteed a more than decent DJ line-up spewing all sorts of House and Electronica to make you dance until you can’t do it anymore. When you can’t, there’s a big enough sitting area to talk shit, or, as some do, pass out while waiting for something more exciting to happen.

We love Kitchener’s Carvery Bar because of its old school, might be someone’s grandmother’s house feel and the fact that while partying in this city seems to be caught up in a mish mash of legal red tape, these people are more lenient than most. Feel free to call us hippies but this place is a haven that guarantees good old simple fun!

OTHER COMPLETELY RELATED INFO: Lord Kitchener was a British soldier who was the original "We Want You" guy in the soldier recruitment posters during the 1st World War. At some point during the Anglo-Boer war, Ol' Kitchener made his way to South Africa and apparently used to dop at what we now know as Kitchener's Carvery Bar, located in one of the oldest hotels in Johannesburg.

Rumoured to be gay (obviously frowned upon in the British Army at that time), the good Lord, to this day, is apparently there with us when we get down to awesome beats. I guess once a lover of good times....
